1. A workshop offering in mid-March: McGraw Hill
2. Governors Institute Offering:
Do you know a high school student who is interested in math, but unsure what a career in math would look like? At the Governor's Institute on Mathematical Sciences, students get to find out! The Mathematical Sciences Institute, held at UVM from June 22-27, gives students hands-on experience with advanced math, the chance to explore mathematical concepts alongside other talented math students, and receive valuable mentorship from leading mathematicians. Throughout the week, students make friends from all across Vermont who share the same academic passions while living on the UVM campus and experiencing college life.
Here is what some recent GIV Mathematical Sciences grads have to say about the Institute:
“The lectures were very insightful and intellectually stimulating, and they also offered several career possibilities if we choose to study math beyond high school. Overall, it was an amazing experience… I enjoy math but I never knew about all the possibilities math has to offer. This camp made me realize that I could make a life out of this subject, something I had never considered before.”
“Having the opportunity to delve into interesting fields of mathematics with equally interested and passionate peers was a rare and precious experience. It was awesome to be in an environment where everyone loved learning and working with math.”
All motivated Vermont students should apply to the Governor's Institutes. Other Institutes offered by GIV include Arts, Asian Cultures, Information Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science and Technology, and Food, Farms, and Your Future. Students apply by visiting our website at www.giv.org and completing the application method chosen by their school.
Please encourage interested students to apply!
